Hajj 2024: Challenges for Saudi Authorities

Last year more than 1.8 million Muslims took part in the Hajj, official figures showed. More than 2,000 people suffered heat stress, according to Saudi authorities, after temperatures soared to 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit).

It is important to note that Hajj often aligns with hot cycles in a desert environment, presenting exceptional risks of HRIs.

For instance, in 1987, during a hot cycle, ~1000 heat stroke (HS) deaths occurred within a few days.

However Saudi Arabia authorities are well prepared in this regard to serve the guests of Allah. 

Some challenges include

1- Over pricing of local transport during Hajj.

2- Over charging by Hotels.

3- Improper guidance during Hajj days.
